Hyundai Steel is a member of the Hyundai Group, one of South Korea’s major conglomerates. Using iron scrap as a primary raw material, the company produces molten metal and manufactures a broad range of products, including H-beams, rail and reinforcing bars, hot coils, cold-rolled steel, and stainless cold-rolled sheets. The company operates numerous manufacturing facilities all over the country, located in Incheon, Pohang, Dangjin and Suncheon. Established in 1953, Hyundai Steel is South Korea’s oldest and second largest steel manufacturer.
In October 2023, a SENNEBOGEN 835 was put into operation at their headquarters in Incheon.
Taking charge of transporting scrap metal across the yard, this material handler is on the job 12 hours a day, 4 cycles a day, 7 days a week, operated by a dedicated team of 12 professional operators.
With a 9.1 m boom and 15.2 m reach, the SENNEBOGEN 835 provides the extended working range needed to move heavy iron scrap across wide yards quickly and efficiently. Equipped with a 5-shell orange peel grab for precision material sorting, and a magnet attachment for fast handling of ferrous materials, it handles a variety of scrap with ease.
Powerful hydraulics and responsive controls give operators the precision required to safely load, unload, and transport large volumes of material in a tight, high-output environment. Whether transferring scrap between trucks and storage piles or feeding processing lines, the 835 delivers dependable performance.
One of the standout features of the SENNEBOGEN 835 is its quick-change system, which allows operators to switch between attachments in just minutes. At Hyundai Steel, this means seamless transitions between the orange peel grab for scrap and the magnet for steel materials, all with minimal downtime.
“Operators love the quick-change system,” says YH Cho, Sales Manager at KILWOO Co. Ltd., SENNEBOGEN’s dealer and service partner in Korea. “It minimizes setup time and keeps productivity high throughout the day.”
The SENNEBOGEN 835 was delivered by SENNEBOGEN’s dealer and service partner, KILWOO Co. Ltd.
This is Hyundai Steel’s second 835 material handler, following their first unit introduced at the Pohang facility in 2020. The machine’s reliability, efficiency and easy maintenance proved a hit with operations over there.
Thus, when it came to expanding their fleet at their Incheon facility – it was a no-brainer.
“The company received good feedback about the machine from the operators at the Pohang branch,” says YH Cho, Sales Manager at KILWOO. “Seeing it work efficiently the past few years over there convinced the company to invest in 2 more units for their Incheon facility.”
By adding more 835s to their fleet, Hyundai Steel is sticking with a machine they know works well. Its low operating costs, minimal maintenance needs, and easy access to spare parts make it a practical choice for their high-demand operations.
